Bahia Feliz Gran Canaria

Hotel Orquidea

Bahia Feliz in Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands certainly enjoys a superb year round climate. When I travelled there in mid-January 2011 for a short break and I was lucky enough to get daytime maximum temperatures of 24C which may have been above average for the time of year was just the tonic to get away from the UK's gloomy January blues. The resort of Bahia Feliz itself is dominated by Hotel Orquidea which pretty much an all-inclusive hotel destination these days.

Just over the road from Hotel Orquidea is the compact resort centre. There are a couple of bars directly facing Hotel Orquidea, the smaller bar is distinctly nordic being run by a Norwegian family, though friendly enough to any brits looking for a drink. The other slightly larger bar a few doors away is run by the most efficient barman I have ever come across, taking your order and serving your drinks within just a minute or two even when the bar is full of customers. There is certainly no need to battle of wills to get the barmans attention here. It's also a great place to watch the football from back home on his large screen TVs and he is usually pretty accomodating if there is a particular fixture that you want to see.

Set back in the same block is a terraced courtyard surrounded by four restaurants and a couple of shops. I tried a couple and they were very reasonably priced. Also in the same area is a smallish supermarket and next to that on the terrace is a coffee shop/bar that I can recommend for a light breakfast snacks.

Bahia Feliz is the resort that plays host to the famous Garbo's Dinner Show, Garbolicious, which is claimed to be the only dinner show of its kind in Gran Canaria. Certainly the show draws customers from right across the island and if you are staying in Bahia Feliz then it is just a short walk away from your hotel. At time of writing the show is currently playing Wednesdays, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings between 7.30-11.30pm. Tickets are available locally.

My party stayed in Monte Feliz which is fairly close to the resort centre though up a bit of a hill so may not be suitable for everyone. The Monte Feliz itself was fairly basic but functional and has a nice pool area. Its a short walk down the hill to the well manicured resort gardens and from there a path leads to the beach and to the promenade where you can walk for around a mile alog the sea front.

Annual holidays in Bahia Feliz happen to be only about relaxation, relaxation, relaxation. Perched pretty on Gran Canaria's shimmering southern coastline, this wonderful destination has just about all the things for a lot of serious R&R.

There's the bronzed beachfront for a start. Sometimes dubbed ' Happy Bay', holidays in Bahia Feliz are typically about stretching out here and simply just relaxing to the maximum. And when you have chilled to perfection in Gran Canaria's wonderful local weather, why don't you try your hand at the popular windsurfing here or even have a walk along the prom.

Bahia Feliz vacations aren't all regarding the gold colored shores though. The place alone oozes a style and a unique character every bit of its very own. Compact however beautifully formed, this contemporary town has been delightfully fashioned in a Moroccan-style and is also sprinkled with vibrant gardens and parks.

You will find a lot of the quaint outlets, attractive dining places and low-key bars at the heart of Bahia Feliz, that can be so warm and friendly you'll think you're on home turf. Tranquil summer holidays don't get much better.

In the evening, venture for Bahia Feliz's pretty town square which is decked out with appealing cafes and restful paveside bars. Or maybe if you fancy a night out on the tiles, there a frequent bus to bustling Playa Del Ingles, merely a 10-minute hop away. So regardless of whether you're thinking about a late deal holiday to Bahia Feliz, are looking for a dream all-inclusive getaway or perhaps are merely searching for a sun-soaked summer trip - this is simply the getaway ticket.
